My work embraces the whole portrait; this is the relationship between subject and surrounding and how the sum is greater than the parts. A portrait relies on the face’s energy and the content of the background; these two parts converse, intertwine, and enhance each other into a new, complete portrayal. The focus of an image is radically changed by it’s surroundings in the same way a person cannot be made without an upbringing.
