Artist Inspiration: Justin

Artist Statement: Capturing little moments that make life special, documenting real life, and finding personality in both the mundane and chaotic makes my camera find subjects in everyday jewels.

Little compares to the nervous thrill of awaking early, hours from a place you know, knowing you have one chance, one opportunity to take the shot you deeply desire. There’s nothing quite like the nerve-coated plea to nature for the conditions to be perfect, for the water to be flowing, for the spirits to be embracing. This guaranteed, everlastingly crisp excitement fuels the artistic flame within me.

As an avid hiker, my aspiration is to witness the serene actuality of the natural world through mixed lighting, contrasting color, and objective beauty. As a photographer, my duty is to adhere to the standstill frame without foregoing the perpetual travels of time. I demonstrate emotional observations through colorful lighting; if I am successful, a sense of either serenity or tumult should be cast. This practice transcends my ambition to capture the beauteous, extending into a mixture of passion, enjoyment, and genuine interest. I hope that, through the observation of time and tranquility, the observer will recognize the regulated uniqueness of our planet and partake in efforts of conservancy.

My story is an 100 piece puzzle and I only provide 10 pieces. Gaps in the narrative are filled by the consciousness of the observer. My puzzle is a riddle for the end of times, with images capturing the ephemeral and the old.

My work is merely a collection of humanity, capturing each unique individual as they move past me like catching fireflies in a jar. I look past the face-value messages that we receive from photography and capture the individual, their story, and their emotion all in a single frame.

The juxtaposition between architecture and portraiture within my body of work forces the observer to draw connections between the two and push past their immediate interpretations of the images.

Artist Statement: I sculpt my images from the milieu of modern life, capturing movement and expression with a focus on form. I shape my images around the modern human condition, crafting forms that are intrinsically grounded in the present yet timeless in their emotive, unapologetically human nature.
